The Difference Between Beast Biltong And Jerky
When it comes to Biltong and jerky they are quite similar and can sometimes get confused, mainly because they are both dried meats. However there are three main differences between the two including the ingredients, taste and production process.
Biltong is always a red meat – beef, venison or ostrich – whereas Jerky can sometimes be mince or chicken (and sometimes vegetables!). Beast Biltong is made from a beef steak taken from the silverside.
Perhaps the biggest difference between the two is in the cooking, or drying process in the case of Biltong. Biltong is marinated in a vinegar and spices mix and then air dried for about a week, whereas Jerky is cooked on a rack and smoked making for a drier taste. The smoking process can also create issues by adding chemical contaminants to the meat.
