The History & Benefits of Biltong
Beast Biltong products have gone from strength to strength and more and more people are finding out the huge health benefits Biltong has, including being rich in protein, high in vitamin B12 and extremely low in fat.
Where it Started
Biltong originated from South African countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The indigenous people from South Africa would preserve meat by slicing it into strips, curing it and then hanging it up to dry. This method was learnt from Dutch Settlers, who would use salt and vinegar to cure meat and then hang strips over tree branches to dry in the sun. After a couple of days, the Biltong would be perfectly preserved and ready to eat straight away or could be used on their journey and would last for months.
Biltong is extremely high in protein and low in carbohydrates, which makes it perfect for a variety of diet and healthy lifestyles. It is also an exceptionally rich source of iron and has a good content of nutrition. Red meat is an essential part of the human diet and it’s an incredibly efficient source of important amino-acids and vitamins.
